Designboom was founded in 1999 and was one of the world’s original online and architecture magazines. Time Magazine chose designbook The Designboom mart as one of the top 100 design influencers in the world. In 2005, Designboom created an interactive platform for emerging and established designers from around the world to meet with visitors within the best of international design fairs.

IDS is excited to announce that designboom mart will be joining IDS for the first time.

This curated pop-up mart offers high-profile design in a familiar street market setting. It’s a unique interactive platform that gives young creatives the opportunity to test their new ideas and to discuss their work directly with customers, manufacturers, distributors, press and museum curators.

More than 200 design objects, small furniture items and lighting projects (prototypes and/or limited edition pieces) will be on display, each created by a different international design professional. Visitors can purchase intelligent, useful and quirky pieces for a symbolic price between $1 and $100. The sales from these affordable pieces help fund the designers’ trip to Toronto and also provide an international showcase opportunity otherwise unavailable to young designers.

Over the years, many talents have been discovered at Designboom Mart pop-ups and gone on to become industry celebrities. After New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Seoul, Melbourne, Stockholm, Saint-Etienne, Valencia and Copenhagen this unique bazaar is now producing its 28th edition, since the very first mart in New York in 2005. Discover exciting new international design talent, buy design items before they are sold in stores and meet the designers face to face.
