Philips Ambient LED 12.5-watt Household bulb is the only true replacement for a 60-watt incandescent bulb.  Unique in design…this bulb when lit, produces  a beautiful, soft white dimmable light just like a standard incandescent bulb. The innovative segmented cap diffuses light in all directions…casting no shadows. An energy saving replacement that lasts 25,000 hours and uses 80 per cent less energy.

Use less and save more

Energy costs are continuing to rise…this means a standard 60-watt incandescent light bulb year-over-year is becoming more expensive to operate. Replacing a standard 60-watt incandescent bulb with a Philips LED 12.5W Household bulb will save 47.5 watts (that’s 80 per cent less energy). Not only is the energy savings significant… the Philips LED 12.5W Household bulb lasts 25 times longer than traditional 60W incandescent bulbs… one Philips LED 12.5W bulb will last as long as 25 incandescent bulbs (60W rated at 1,000 hours).

So why choose LEDs?

Switching to higher-efficiency Philips LED lighting can help reduce utility costs, preserve the environment and create the perfect lighting for any home.  The Philips family of LED light bulbs offer a wider range of solutions for almost ever y household application.

What’s even better than the energy savings, long life and performance? — Philips LED 12.5W Household bulb is now ENERGY STAR qualified.

I have used these lamps and the quality of light is virtually indistinguishable from an incandescent one. It is not great in an open fixture since the bulb itself looks so bizarre when off, but it's worth noting that when turned on, the yellow is not visible and it looks like any other incandescent light source. However there are competitors on the market which offer an alternative that look like a frosted incandescent and also provide excellent lumens and colour rendering.

As far as heat goes, they are absolutely not as hot as an incandescent. After 10 minutes of operation, you can put your hand on the bulb and it is merely warm to the touch. Very little radiant heat emanates from this lamp making it very practical for closed fixtures and small spaces.

The initial price per lamp is going to be prohibitive for some budgets, but if you can get the client to wrap their heads around the amortization of that amount, over time, it's very cost effective.

The bulbs seem to be hotter then a 60-watt incandescent bulb and the yellow colouring will be visible through most domes when off. Aesthetically, you would not want them open and uncovered.

As welcome as this new bulb is, there is no information about how much heat they generate if any.

If these are truly low or no heat bulbs, then that extends the use of these bulbs in all sorts of directions beyond those in typical interior design applications.
