BURNABY, BC, Feb. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Canlan Ice Sports Burnaby 8 Rinks
will be undergoing a significant renovation of 2 of their Rinks from
May to September. Rinks 5 and 6 were a part of the original 4 Rinks
built in 1972, and though the rest of the building received a major
upgrade in 1995, these rinks were only partially upgraded.
Greg Porcellato, VP of Western Operations, commented "We have made
investments in both other Canlan facilities over the years and now we
are delighted to be in a position to commit to bringing this portion of
our Burnaby facility to Canlan's New Standards. As the industry
leader in the area of Hockey and Skating Development Programs, we also
have the largest Adult Hockey and Indoor Soccer leagues. Our goal is
to ensure we deliver the customer experience that everyone has come to
expect when walking into a Canlan facility in all parts of the
building."
Some of the exciting, new renovations planned on Rinks 5 and 6 include:
Structural repair of columns and subfloor; Full repairs and replacement
of ice rink floors; Full repairs and replacement of these rinks
refrigeration system; Refurbishment of rink boards and glass;
Improvements to dressing rooms.
General Manager, Rob Stare, noted that though staff and users are very
excited about the updates on these Rinks, "This will obviously have an
impact on what ice is available as it reduces the ice inventory by 1/3
for this period." Six out of the eight playing surfaces will remain in
service during the renovation.
These projects will be occurring May 1 through September Labour day in
2013. Staff are currently working through the allocation of ice for
Leagues, Programs and Contracts to try to accommodate as many ice
requests as possible during this time.
Information, photos and updates will be available on the icesports.com website, posted within the facility, as well as Burnaby 8 Rinks
Facebook and Twitter pages.
