SICO Paints goes green

Sico Paints of Longueuil, Que., has announced the removal of all volatile organic compounds (VOC) from its Sico Design product line. The emission-free paint has been endorsed by Green Seal, a Washington D.C.-based, non-profit organization which recognizes environmental excellence.

“The new zero-VOC paint is high in performance, so customers do not have to compromise on quality when making environmentally-responsible paint choices,” explained Dominique Pepin, Senior Brand Manager at Sico.

Pepin also notes that the colorants that are mixed into the paint at the retail level still do contain some VOCs and the company is currently working towards zero-VOC colorants as well. VOCs are atmospheric pollutants that evaporate at room temperature and react with sunlight to form smog, which can cause respiratory complications and other ailments.

Sico is a manufacturer of architectural paint and a supplier of metal coatings designed for the transportation industry. Sico operates 6 plants in Quebec and in Ontario and has nearly 1,000 employees.
