Umbra opens concept store in Toronto

Home product designer Umbra is opening a new concept store in downtown Toronto. The 7,000-square-foot, two-level space will showcase an assortment of Umbra and U+ Studio Collection products. The space, which will have a sleek, white and minimal design, will also be used for new product launches and product development seminars. The exterior of the store will be wrapped in a unique translucent pink cladding.

“Our store will include a functioning design space where customers can see members of our team at work, as well as a rotating showcase of works by our industrial, graphic and photographic designers,” said Paul Rowan, vice president of design at Umbra.

Umbra’s design team consists of over 30 men and women from around the globe and each product carries its designer’s name. The company invests in future designers by partnering with leading design schools and creating programs like the Umbra/Pratt Institute Design competition.

Umbra, a Canadian company founded by Les Mandelbaum and Paul Rowan in 1979, has offices in Canada, the U.S., Europe, Hong Kong and mainland China. Its products are available from over 25,000 retailers in more than 75 countries.
