On Line

It’s Turkish designer Aykut Erol’s contention that furniture is hogging our living spaces. In an effort to “give more space and more air to us,” Erol developed Line, “a system extending indefinitely with a single line regenerating itself.” In this system, such furniture as a worktable, hanger, bookshelf, wine rack, CD rack, TV stand and lighting unit all appear as design objects in their purest form.

Thanks to a connecting apparatus, certain parts of Line can be folded toward the wall, reducing the thickness of the furniture to 10 millimetres. The system can be produced in aluminum string, stainless steel, titanium or coloured hard plastic.

Line, which took best of show at last year’s Istanbul Design Week, was exhibited within Ilk in Milano, a celebration of Turkish design at this past April’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
