Doings atthe DX
“Feel this” is the theme of the Design Exchange’s fall fundraising gala?-?the phrase suggesting texture both visual and physical, along with the emotion good design evokes.
This year’s gala celebrates the 70th anniversary of the historic Toronto Stock Exchange building, home to the DX since 1994. It also honours Eb Zeidler, DX board member and Canadian icon. Over the years, the legendary architect has made a tremendous contribution to this country; his notable works include Ontario Place, the Eaton Centre, the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto) and Canada Place (Vancouver). In addition, Zeidler has done a great deal of work overseas, bringing increased recognition to Canada as a world-class design leader.
The DX has put out a call to designers of all disciplines across Canada for one-of-a-kind bags?-?from handbags and briefcases to backpacks and cell phone cases?-?to be auctioned at the gala. Designed with the “Feel this” theme in mind, the bags will be featured in a gala fashion show, photographed for an online publication and auctioned to benefit youth programs at the DX.
The gala is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20.
