Figure3, interior designers of the new Umbra flagship store and the British Airways lounge at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, recently debuted its sleek new Yorkville headquarters.

WILL ALSOP ART SHOW

British architect Will Alsop shook up staid old Toronto with his Ontario College of Art and Design addition, featuring a slab hovering on humongous Pickup Stix legs. Not content to create in three dimensions, he’s also working in two, opening a one-man show at Toronto’s Olga Korper Gallery in June.

MA ZONE PARTY

Ma Zone, the cool furnishings accessories boutique on Jarvis Street, launched the North American debut of Spain’s Agatha Ruiz de la Prada with a colourful, whimsical collection of clocks, recycled-glass sculpture and tableware. The erstwhile fashion designer, says Ma Zone owner Armin Martiros, “is a nouveau hippy. She was a flower child, which is evident in her love of stars, hearts and flowers.”

DIAMOND + SCHMITT SUMMER SOLSTICE PARTY

A long-time favourite on the party circuit, the annual Diamond + Schmitt Summer Solstice party was held this year at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, designed by the Toronto architectural firm.
