Winning ways (November 01, 2007)

At a gala event following the first day of IIDEX/NeoCon Canada this past September, the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario announced the winners of its 23rd annual Awards of Excellence. Glammed up for the occasion, Heritage Court at Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre – full of sometimes-raucous revellers – never looked so good.

This year, ARIDO recognized 25 entries in 12 different categories – comprising two projects of the year, four awards of excellence and 20 awards of merit.

This was definitely Burdifilek’s year. Along with project of the year (Stratus Winery), the firm won an award of excellence (Capezio) and three merits (Holt Renfrew Designer Collection Floor; Holt Renfrew Designer Collection Floor – Feature Display Table; and Holt Renfrew Personal Shopping Suites). The other project of the year (Umbra Premiere Retail Location) belonged to Figure3, which also received a merit award (Workspace-on-demand Office Model for IBM). Other firms taking home multiple awards included Full Scale + Partners Inc., Cecconi Simone, Bartlett & Associates, Anacleto Design Associates, and Chapman Design Group Ltd.
