Magic Carpet
Co-founders of Creative Matters Inc. and veteran carpet designers Donna
Hastings and Carol Sebert will set out to exhibit their new collection in Europe in early January with an
added spring in their step. This thanks to their hand-knotted wool and silk Nepalese rug “French Wire”
being nominated for a Carpet Design Award in the category of “Best Modern Design.” The internationally
distinguished prize will be awarded Sun., Jan. 13, 2008 at Domotex, the world’s most comprehensive floor
coverings expo, which runs from Jan. 12 to 15 at the Deutsche Messe in Hannover, Germany. Domotex
is expected to attract well over 50,000 visitors from more than 100 countries. During the trade show
“French Wire” will hang as a featured rug in the design award area.
“This Carpet Design Award is to rug designers what the Booker is to authors,” said Ms. Sebert. “We’re
thrilled to be nominated for this internationally-recognized award.”
According to Domotex show organizer Deutsche Messe, the 3rd annual Carpet Design Awards (CDA) are
worth a total of 10,000 euros in prize money which is given for innovative design, creativity and quality in
the handmade carpet sector. “The CDA are the benchmark for this industry and the place to showcase new
trends.” More than 200 carpets were entered in the CDA awards, which are presented by Deutsche
Messe and HALI and Modern Carpets & Textiles for Interiors (MC&T) magazines.
“Being nominated for a CDA is a great thrill for our entire team,” said Ms. Hastings. “We’re especially
excited to kick off our 20th anniversary year with this distinction.”
