Marimekko Comes To Canada
Marimekko, the leading Finnish textile and clothing design company, has finally come to Canada – with the opening of its first concept store in this country. Located in downtown Vancouver’s trendy Yaletown neighbourhood, the 2,000-square-foot store is run by independent retailers Anne and Steve Miller, known for their designhouse stores in Vancouver and Victoria.
Established in 1951, Marimekko designs, manufactures and markets high-quality clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags and other accessories. Its concept stores showcase the colourful Marimekko lifestyle and sell a comprehensive selection of merchandise from every line.
“Marimekko’s visions for the future are being forged through young designers, just like in Marimekko’s early years in the 1950s,” says Kirsti Paakkanen, president of Marimekko Corporation. “We have faith in young talented designers, both from Finland and abroad; we trust that they will boldly create something new and avant-garde. However, we are committed to Marimekko’s basic philosophy: design is inspired by beautiful everyday life.”
