Second annual Palm enRoute Awards in Mobility Design announced
Palm Canada and enRoute, the award-winning inflight magazine of Air Canada, have officially announced the launch of the second annual Palm enRoute Awards in Mobility Design competition. Intended to recognize Canadian innovation in the industrial design industry, the awards seek to fuse creativity with mobility to create revolutionary “on-the-go” designs for travellers.
From practical travel accessories and luggage sets to reinvented accommodations and travel-adapted clothing, the call for 2008 submissions is open. Proposals should be well thought-out, striking and even a little mind-bending. Inspiration from the works of last year’s winners can be found at enroutemag.com/design/.
“As an innovator and a leader in the growing smartphone market, Palm is once again pleased to support Canadian talent in mobile design,” says Janice Keay, marketing manager, Palm Canada, Inc. “This contest encourages ingenious designers to push the envelop with their most creative ideas and boldly innovate.”
Selected by a distinguished jury (2007 judges included renowned designers Karim Rashid and Wil Gibson), winners will receive prizes including cash, trips and Palm mobile technology. Results will be published in the October 2008 print edition of enRoute magazine and online.
“Our goal is to make this annual event a reference for the best Canadian designers, whether veterans or newcomers. This showcase gives them a unique opportunity to test new ideas and to approach their creative work outside of all the usual constraints. In this way, we hope to help people discover cutting-edge design as it comes into being,” explains enRoute editor-in-chief Ilana Weitzman.
