Design Montreal’s Open House returns

Interested in learning all about the creative process in design and architecture? Montral designers welcome you on May 3 and 4 as they showcase their most recent creations and the various facets of their professions as part of the second annual Design Montral Open House. More than 70 Montral design offices and sites are part of this year’s event, organized by the Design Montral office of the Ville de Montral, in partnership with the professional design community.Following the successful inaugural edition in the spring of 2007, this year’s Open House will take place over two days. The event features a diverse program, including highly original activities that will spotlight all the richness, diversity and talent that Montral’s design professionals have to offer.Once again this year, Montral’s designers will open their doors to the public. Visitors will be able to tour work spaces and meet creators who have won national and international design competitions and contests: architects, landscape architects, interior designers, industrial designers, graphic designers, fashion designers and the city’s urban planners. The public is also invited to visit, free of charge, prize-winning Montral projects, accompanied by the architects and designers who created them, and to tour key venues dedicated to design. A free shuttle service will be available between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to transport visitors to offices located outside the city’s downtown core.Among other events on the program, visitors will be able to view exhibitions by graduating classes in the design and architecture programs of the city’s various universities. In another new addition to the program this year, Pecha Kucha will give pride of place to emerging designers and new design practices at an evening devoted to creation on Saturday, May 3, at 8 p.m. at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT).For more information, please see www.ville.montreal.qc.ca/designmontreal
