The World Architecture Festival, a genuine celebration of the work, concerns and ambitions of the international community towards architecture, will be held from October 22nd to 24th, 2008, in Barcelona! Long awaited, this new worldwide contest represents the biggest event meant to recognize quality and excellence in the field of architecture.
The World Architecture Festival was created for the professionals, as well as for all the various partners, from every country of the world, present in this sphere of activity. To be eligible for this contest, the productions must have been completed between January 1st, 2007 and June 20th, 2008.
In concrete terms, the 256 best creations, classified in 16 categories (16 creations per category), shall be presented before the public and the WAF jury. The latter will attribute one prize per category. The winners of this first stage of the contest will thereafter be required to defend their project in front of a super-jury in order to win the prize crowning the Festival, the Prix de Bacelona. Chaired by Lord Norman Foster, the jury is composed of internationally renowned architects, among which Richard Meier and Zaha Hadid, of specialized critics, of clients and of associates originating from the five continents. This contest will benefit from an exceptional press coverage, thanks to the partnerships developed with the specialized media from more than 23 countries.
In addition to this contest, the World Architecture Festival proposes several other activities. The WAF will present an exhibition on the theme of the city, housing and sustainable development, as well as an extended conference program presented by key architecture and environment specialists, a competition between architecture schools in the scope of a charette organized by the City of Barcelona, a showcase of the most innovative products, guided city sightseeing tours and other networking activities.
