Dates set, judges named for 4th Benjamin Moore Hue Awards
Architects and interior designers who posses a passion for using colour—and have a portfolio of projects to prove it—are invited to submit their work in the Benjamin Moore HUE Awards. In its fourth year, the competition, which recognizes exceptional use of colour in architecture and interior design, will begin accepting submissions May 1, 2009, with an October 9 deadline. There is no fee to enter; downloadable entry forms and instructions are available only at www.benjaminmoore.ca, after April 1.
Since establishing the HUE Awards in 2005, Benjamin Moore has presented nearly $100,000 in prize money to both the super novas and novices of the design profession in categories that include Residential Interiors, Residential Exteriors, Contract Interiors, Contract Exteriors, Social Responsibility and Lifetime Achievement. The program seeks to honour the incorporation of colour in innovative and imaginative ways—through the use of interior and exterior paints, building materials, textiles and other surfaces, plus design elements and furnishings. In addition to a $5,000 cash prize, each honouree also receives a HUEY mouth-blown crystal sculpture. This year’s competition will culminate with the HUE Awards Ceremony, scheduled for March, 2010, in New York.
In announcing the new dates for the HUE Awards, Benjamin Moore also revealed the slate of judges. As in previous years, it is an illustrious group drawn from the worlds of design, fashion and industry. Among the five tapped to serve are: Thomas R. Krizmanic, AIA, LEED AP, a principal of STUDIOS Architecture, which was a 2008 HUE honouree; Reed Kroloff, director, Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum; Mayer Rus, design and culture editor of The Los Angeles Times Magazine; Essie Weingarten, founder and president of Essie Cosmetics, Ltd.; and, Tim Wisgerhof, former creative director, Saks Fifth Avenue.
“The caliber of judges has added a stamp of prestige and credibility to the HUE Awards that is immeasurable,” said Eileen McComb, Benjamin Moore’s director of communications. “This year’s panel will bring a diverse perspective along with a keen eye and appreciation for colour usage. They join the ranks of an accomplished roster of past jurists, and we are grateful that they have so
generously accepted to participate.”
