PLUUNK bed

“Canadian consumers are increasingly demanding real value in their purchases and are craving quality design for sustainable living,” says Peter Emmenegger, founder of INQUISITIVEkid, contemporary children’s retail store. Emmenegger spent years searching for children’s beds that would fit the store’s philosophy — pure in form and colour — and found the results daunting. The ones that were available in Canada were of poor quality, and the ones available abroad were continuously discontinued or had excruciating long lead times. Thus, the PLUUNK furniture line was born.

“I have commissioned internationally acclaimed Toronto architecture firm, UCARCHITECT, for the design and utilized local craftspeople to bring the clean modern design to life,” says Emmenegger. “Anyone can build a bed; one that is both utilitarian, sustainable, designed for children, and aesthetically pleasing is another matter. My fundamental beliefs are that the arts are for everyone, we need to inspire even the youngest children.”

The first two contemporary and versatile pieces are a bunk bed and a single bed. “The bunk bed is designed from all four sides and therefore can be placed in various configurations depending on the size and shape of a room – against one wall, in a corner or freestanding,” says Emmenegger. “The upper bunk and the lower platform bed are independent, allowing the lower platform bed to be positioned directly under the bunk, half way under, perpendicular to it or at the other end of the room. In fact, the lower platform bed incorporates a low sitting area where a parent and the children can sit and read bedtime stories.”
