Blu Dot & Urban Mode & the IDS
Blu Dot and Urban Mode will be partnering to participate in this year’s Interior Design Show in Toronto, Jan. 21-24. Urban Mode has been working with Blu Dot for over 10 years and is the Dot Spot retailer in Toronto. Together they will be furnishing one of five 100-square-foot “Sheds” inspired by the trend of small, free-standing shelters being used in Toronto. Featured will be Blu Dot’s Desk 51, Real Good chair, SHILF shelving unit, Buttercup rocker, Sprout side table, Dwell lounge chair and the Son of a Bench.
Urban Mode owner Myrlene Sundberg chose the shed at IDS over a traditional booth because it was a unique reflection of her own design ideology: “I am a fanatic about pre-fabs and small space design. Our tag line is “Smart Design for Small Spaces.” We are expanding our store and have been working with Sustain Design Ltd. and Altius Architects to build a mobile retail structure.” This 12-by-24-foot Galvalume and Red Cedar mini-home presents the latest in eco-friendly modular prefab and will be a fully dedicated showroom for Blu Dot product, the first of its kind in Canada. Now docked adjacent to Urban Mode, it can also be transported to various venues.
A launch event to celebrate the opening of Blu Dot’s new home at Urban Mode will coincide with IDS. John Christakos, co-founder and CEO of Blu Dot, will be on hand on Friday, Jan. 22 for the festivities. He will make an informal presentation called “There is no I in Desgn,” discussing Blu Dot’s philosophy and collaborative approach to design. The event will be at Urban Mode from 7 to 9 p.m.
