Teknion’s Ron Hughes Elected to IDC Board

Teknion Corporation has announced that Ron Hughes, VP of Canadian Sales, has been named a Director on the Interior Designers of Canada’s (IDC) new Board of Management. The appointment follows the recent restructure of IDC, which moves from a seven-member organization of provincial associations to an association representing nearly 3,000 individual interior designers from across Canada. IDC’s goal, with Hughes’ contribution, is to establish a national voice in the design industry.

“We are very pleased to have Ron join our board of directors as the industry representative,” said Susan Wiggins, Executive Director, IDC. “A graduate of Ryerson University’s School of Interior Design, Ron brings a considerable amount of industry experience and knowledge to the role. His ability to build relationships will serve our members well and benefit the association. We look forward to having him onboard to help IDC build a strong, national voice for the interior design community.”

IDC’s restructure gives Hughes the opportunity to help unite those in the design community and improve the profession in Canada. As industry representative, Hughes will speak on behalf of industry members and, along with other IDC board members, tailor programs for designers to strengthen their industry. During the organization’s transition, Hughes will travel across Canada to communicate and support relationships between designers, manufacturers and suppliers while also supporting IIDEX/NeoCon Canada – the national annual design expo and conference.

“From our inception, Teknion has avidly supported the Canadian design industry,” said Frank Delfino, President, Worldwide Markets. “With expertise in contract furniture manufacturing and a background in design, Ron brings valuable knowledge to his new role with IDC as industry representative. His determination to actively build relationships with IDC and its members also reflects Teknion’s corporate cultural values to strengthen and elevate the national design profession.”

Hughes has extensive experience in the industry with his work at several contract furniture manufacturers. He is also a former partner of the furniture manufacturer, Guildhall. A grad from Toronto’s Ryerson University, Hughes has a background in interior and product design and currently serves as member and president of the Ryerson School of Interior Design Advisory Council.
