Honours for Omicron

Omicron is excited to announce that the Whistler Transit Facility project has received the 2010 Design-Build Award of Excellence from the Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI).

In the role of Design-Builder, Omicron provided comprehensive design and construction services for the Whistler Transit Facility. The project was recognized for the integrated design-build approach that resulted in a $2-million reduction in project cost; the creation of successful partnerships among all project stakeholders; and the resourceful scheduling methods utilized to deliver the project six weeks ahead of schedule.

Completed last December, the Whistler Transit Facility is a state-of-the-art operations and maintenance facility capable of fueling and servicing a combined fleet of 36 hydrogen- and diesel-fueled buses. The 25,000-square-foot facility is comprised of a maintenance and administration building with six maintenance bays, a bus wash/dry bay, hydrogen and diesel fueling stations and the potential for covered parking for 50 buses.

The Whistler Transit Facility is the largest hydrogen bus facility and the first of its kind in the world. The facility was commissioned by BC Transit to meet its commitment of providing a hydrogen fueling and maintenance facility for the 2010 Olympic Games and to meet the needs of BC Transit in supporting the Whistler transit service requirements for the next 40 years.

Omicron would like to congratulate and thank BC Transit, Pacific Liaicon and Associates Inc. (SNC-Lavalin) and the entire project team for contributing to the success of this project.
