Fritz Hansen has introduced into its 2011 collection the iconic Series 7 chair in natural oak, a symbolic representation of the design’s strength and endurance. Designed by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1955 and manufactured by Republic of Fritz Hansen, the stackable Series 7 chair is one of Fritz Hansen’s most popular designs.
Oak is a material well known for hardness and great strength, projected in an elegant way with its attractive, natural grain marks. It was therefore a natural step for Fritz Hansen to introduce the Series 7 chair in natural oak, the result being a very clean and distinct Scandinavian style.
Its soft curves, subtle statements and ability to adapt to diverse environments have contributed to the continuing success of the Series 7 design. The use of high quality materials and skilled craftsmanship has resulted in a timeless design that can be enjoyed for generations.
The Series 7 chair was the successor of the Ant chair, the first of a collection of stacking chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen. It was a controversial design at the time, due to its simplistic form and because it was the first of its kind to be manufactured in one complete piece of steam bent, wood veneer.
Manufactured in Denmark, the production technique of the Series 7 chair remains the same today as it was in 1955. Its nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton are the hallmark of the Series 7 chair production, sanded and hand finished to perfection.
Introduced to the market in 1955, the Series 7 chair is now available in seven types of wood veneer; maple, walnut, dark stained oak, cherry, maple, ash and natural oak.
