Treehugger’s Best of Green Awards
Brooklyn-based Areaware is proud to be a winner of Treehugger’s Best of Green Award in the Cars & Transportation cateogy for its Strida Folding Bike.
Strida is the first completely new bicycle geometry in 95 years. Inside a triangular frame of lightweight aluminum, power is transferred to the rear wheel via a silent clean Kevlar belt. Handlebars are mounted horizontally so the rider can sit comfortably upright with an excellent view of the road.
The genius of the triangular frame is that it can quickly fold. In five seconds, you have a light, compact form that you can easily wheel, stow in a closet, load in your car or take on the train.

For five years now, the team behind TreeHugger has been discovering, debating, and discerning which people, companies, products and ideas are helping push green into the mainstream. Along the way, they have seen green fashion blossom, international climate treaties stagnate, and electric vehicles come to market; they’ve seen some green ideas rise and some green leaders fall. They’ve ranted and we’ve raved. But through it all, their optimism remains.
And so, this April, in honor o Earth Month and the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Treehugger introduced its second annual Best of Green Awards, which highlight the individuals and organizations that are pushing the green movement forward. Going green isn’t always easy, nor can it be defined in black-and-white terms. By awarding excellence in more than 200 categories across eight topics, Treehugger applauds the pioneers who rise above business-as-usual in search of a better way.
