Six Point Un’s wonderful Winter

Quebec City–based company Six Point Un, which designs and markets furniture and home accessories, has received the Studio North Best Collection award from Toronto’s 2012 Interior Design Show. It is given by IDS Toronto for best collection of the show amongst about 60 Canadian designers. The selection was based on innovation, creativity, quality and commercial potential. This year, the jury was composed of Dwell senior editor Kelsey Keith, internationally renowned Swedish architect and designer Eero Koivisto, and Jonathan Loudon, president of ACIDO (Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario).

Kolvisto called the collection – called Our Winter Classic – “quietly joyful.”

Launched as their its first collection, Six Point Un’s Our Winter Classics collection delves into Canadian and Quebec roots. Its lines are simple, pure and functional; it combines quality construction and local materials.

The collection is composed of The Log Bench, T1 Storage, The Ice Cabinet, The Bookcase, The Bookends and The Sleigh Bench. The Log Bench, T1 Storage and The Ice Cabinet will soon be available to purchase on Six Point Un online store, (www.sixpointun.ca.).

In addition to the award, the company from Quebec City will get Studio North exhibition space for IDS 2013. Six Point Un’s founders are really enthusiastic to present again at IDS and confirmed they will launch new products for the upcoming show.

Operating since a little bit less than a year, Six Point Un has had great press coverage and has been involved in several exhibitions nationally and internationally, such as From Quebec in New York 2010, Biologiska during Stockholm Design Week in Sweden, Hochelaga mon amour in Montreal, Moto and IDS 2012 in Toronto.

The company was founded by two industrial designers, Claudia Després and Jérémy Couture. And the name, Six Point Un? Both designers are  6 foot 1 inch tall.
