A Red Dot for Duravit

The OpenSpace shower by Duravit and EOOS has been honored with the coveted 2012 Red Dot Award for product design. This “Best of the Best” award distinguishes aesthetic designs and sustainable trends. Additionally, the Darling New and Onto ranges have each won a Good Design Award for 2011. The Good Design Award, run by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, recognizes innovative and practical designs from around the world.

For the OpenSpace shower, Duravit collaborated with Vienna-based EOOS to create a truly original shower concept: one that folds against the wall after use to create newly usable space. Designed for the small bathrooms often found in urban environments, the shower walls disappear into a discreet chrome frame that tidily conceals tap fittings, shower attachments, and toiletries when not in use. The optional mirrored finish creates the illusion of expansion and also provides the necessary bathroom mirror. These special design benefits prompted the jury to single it out for the “Best of the Best” 2012 Red Dot Award.

Featuring console on ceramic instead of ceramic on console, the Onto bathroom series by Matteo Thun reinterprets the washing area. The combination of practicality, aesthetics and ease of assembly make the program extremely versatile. For these properties, which highlight Thun’s philosophy of the beauty of economy, the jury distinguished Onto as a Good Design Award recipient.

The Darling New bathroom range by Sieger Design offers individual washing area solutions at attractive prices. With a total of 52 different types of furniture to choose from, ranging from tall cabinets and mobile storage units to mirror cabinets, Darling New is Duravit’s most extensive furniture range. The complete bathroom range offers lots of design for little money, and it was for this concept that the jury awarded it the Good Design Award 2011.
