Shaw peruses the dragon
Shaw Contract Group has opened a showroom in Shanghai to provide customers in rapidly growing Asian markets with greater access to its high performance Cradle to Cradle certified carpet tile. The U.S.-based flooring manufacturer’s LEED-registered Commercial Interior space, pending Gold certification, will be followed by showrooms opening in Beijing and Hong Kong later this year.
“Designers, multinational corporations and local clients in China are pursuing some of the most interesting architectural and interior design projects in the world, and they are looking to Shaw Contract Group to provide design solutions,” said John Stephens, vice president of marketing for Shaw Contract Group. “Our new showrooms in Asia will provide immediate access to our completely recyclable, PVC-free award-winning carpet tiles.”
Shaw Contract Group will build on its long-term commitment to Asian markets when it breaks ground in April on a carpet tile manufacturing facility in Nantong, outside of Shanghai. The facility will produce carpet tile specifically for Asia. “Manufacturing in China and establishing greater sales presence there will open doors for new business relationships and strengthen ties to existing Asian Pacific customers and multinational corporations,” said Tim Baucom, vice president of sales and marketing for Shaw’s commercial division. “We’re building on our ability to deliver our EcoWorx® carpet tile products designed for use in any commercial environment, in any global market.”
In seeking LEED CI Gold certification, the following notable aspects were integrated into the Shanghai showroom’s design: International Regional Priority (RP) credits for lighting power and control, HVAC, and measurement & verification; Innovation in Design (ID) credits for Cradle to Cradle certification and Energy Star electronics and appliances; Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) credits for flooring systems; Shaw’s LokDots system contributed toward adhesives & sealant credit.
