A taste of art deco
The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards was held at the RIBA in London, England, on Sept. 6.
The RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) in London is an iconic 1930s art deco building representing the best in architecture and design. The challenge was to create an innovative awards ceremony that complements the standards of this great institution.
The inspiration for this year’s ceremony was sourced from the art deco lines that form an effective decorative language throughout the building. These lines represent strong “designer” values, such as progress, direction and creativity.
Over one night, the powers that be built an illuminated pop-up structure that was both visually impressive and fully functional as a series of working bars and stage.
The structure was built by The French Group, Nicholas Alexander and Artworks with lighting byFirefly Lighting Design.
