Waste not, want not: Teknion

Teknion Corporation has  announced that Esmond Manufacturing, a Teknion company that produces workplace electrical components and accessories, earned Gold in the 2012 Ontario Waste Minimization Awards presented in Toronto on Oct. 18. Esmond’s award was one of only two Golds presented in the Industrial Commercial & Institutional Manufacturing category.

“The Recycling Council of Ontario is proud to recognize and showcase the environmental achievements of Teknion and Esmond,” saiys Jo-Anne St. Godard, executive director of the Recycling Council. “It is the commitment of champion companies such as Teknion that are going to solve Ontario’s waste issues. We share their pride in winning Gold.”

“The innovative implementation of solid waste prevention and environmental stewardship initiatives has resulted in a bold shift in organizational culture, with a proactive environmental responsibility shared amongst our employees,” says Hanna Shaheen, president & general manager of Esmond. “Our employees are proud to win the Gold 2012 Waste Minimization Award. It confirms our commitment and actions to protect the environment. Reducing solid waste, increasing recycled content and improving reusability will benefit all.”

In the Industrial Commercial & Institutional Manufacturing category, companies are evaluated on their efforts and commitment to reducing resource requirements, including energy, water and non-renewable resource conservation, and reduction, reuse and recycling of solid waste. Teknion has now earned five honors since 2007 in the RCO’s annual awards competition. The awards were presented during Waste Reduction Week in Canada, which ran from October 15-21.
