Spotlight on Studio Brovhn

Here’s to Vancouver-based designer Miguel Brovhn of Studio Brovhn, who is having one heck of a great 2013 so far. On two fronts.

1. INTERNATIONAL SPOTLIGHT THROUGH ITALIAN DESIGN AWARD

Studio Brovhn is proud to announce that designer/director Miguel Brovhn has been selected a winner of the 2013 Emerge Italy Product Design competition. Miguel submitted a new design for the contest entitled O-Series.

O-Series is a collection of tables, desks and benches. The hallmark of the design are bases that can be positioned either at ends, or the centre of tops. For tables having bases at the centre, legs can be placed in six different configurations.

O-Series is designed to have tops in wood or laminate. There are two choices of legs: one solid, matching tops, in wood or laminate.; or open (O-shape) in enameled metal. Wood, a natural material, provides beauty and warmth to interiors. Laminate tops/solid legs are ideal for heavy use (contract) environments.

Emerge Italy is the result of a partnership between three organizations: Federlegno Arredo (owners of Salone del Mobile), the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, and the IIDA. Three winners were selected: one Best of Competition, and two Honourable Mentions. Miguel’s O-Series entry was selected as a Honourable Mention. The judges and organizers were so impressed with the three winning entries that each will have a chance to have their pieces manufactured and displayed at the 2014 Salone del Mobile.

2. THE LAUNCH OF STUDIO BROVHN’S FURNITURE LINE

Studio Brovhn is pleased to announce the launch of its furniture line with three collections: Bridge table, Hexa table and Planar bench.

Bridge, Hexa and Planar collections share an interplay between exterior and interior; where the exterior is reduced to a few key details, while the inner side reveals more elaborate elements. The result is beautiful dialogue that is almost architectural in persona, encouraging observation from multiple angles to fully appreciate the design.

Furniture pieces are proudly made in Canada. Production is a mix of handmade and CNC processes. Wood is FSC certified, ensuring sustainable forestry practices.

Bridge

A bridge, by definition, connects and routes people from two adjacent elements. The Bridge table aims to bring people together through association, time, and food. Bridge features a top that hovers effortlessly above two legs. The table maintains a lightweight presence despite being solid in build and weight.

A structural detail, the metal profile at the top and bottom of legs, becomes the ornamental and distinguishing mark of the table. These metal parts are available in white, grey or black, pairing well with the ash, oak, and walnut wood finishes of the table.

Hexa

Hexa tables feature a leg to top connection detail derived from a hexagon form. The outer side of legs have a 90-degree vertical profile, while on the inner side they feature complex angles as precise in detail as facet cuts on a dia- mond.

Hexa tables are available in square, rectangular and round sizes. Legs are positioned to maximize the seating area: square and rectangular tables have legs at corners, while round tables boast only three legs.

Available in ash, oak, and walnut finishes.

Planar

Planar is defined by a slender side profile, beginning at 1 cm, subtly angling towards a thicker core. Legs at either end support a long, horizontal span intersecting at carefully executed mitered joints.

Planar is elegant and has an illusion of weightlessness. The low profile and open nature of the design complements both small and large-scale interior settings.

Optional seat cushion in fabric or leather. Structure finishes include wood (ash, oak, walnut) and matt lacquer.
