Countdown to World Interiors Day

World Interiors Day, held annually the last Saturday in May, is a worldwide event that celebrates the positive impact of design on society. In honour of World Interiors Day 2013, Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Fredericton and Halifax officially proclaimed May 25 as “World Interiors Day.”

“Interior design is more than just aesthetics,” says David Hanson, past-president of Interior Designers of Canada and International Federation of Interior Designers/Architects. “It’s about finding creative design solutions for interior environments while supporting the health, safety and well being of occupants and enhancing their quality of life. I’m delighted that seven of Canada’s major cities and the province of Winnipeg have acknowledged the value that interior design contributes to society by officially proclaiming World Interiors Day.”

The event is spearheaded by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). In honour of its 50th anniversary, IFI and it’s partner associations, including Interior Designers of Canada, aims to have 50 cities around the world proclaim World Interiors Day. In past years, several cities including New York City, Montreal and Taipei have made the proclamation.
