Rashid does the desert boot

Award-winning designer Karim Rashid is embarking on one of his most creative fashion projects to date – the creation of a one-of-a-kind desert boot with Sully Wong, the Toronto-based shoe-design company. Rashid will be sharing his unique design style with George Sully and Henry Wong, the two minds behind the footwear and lifestyle brand Sully Wong, to create the desert boot, which is a one-of-a-kind limited collaboration set to launch across Canada next spring.

“This collaboration is among the biggest in our brand’s history,” says George Sully. “Karim Rashid is one of our generation’s true geniuses and notable designers. Time Magazine considers Karim to be one of the most influential designers of our time. The directions his creative mind takes are astounding and simple out of the box. We love what he’s come up with for the desert boot.”

No surprise to fashion and design curators, the limited-edition Sully Wong premium-leather desert boot will feature some of Karim’s most iconic prints in what promises to be a truly unique work of footwear art. Considered a brand that cares more about design and quality than hype, Sully Wong has been thrust into the global footwear market due to the Karim’s recent collaboration with the brand. More ready then ever, Sully Wong is proud to say it’s produced a well-crafted, designed and manufactured product that is ready for global distribution.

The shoes feature Rashid’s trademark bright and striking colours (pinks, oranges, purples and electric blues), along his his visually stunning and distinctive and iconic design patters KROMO, KAOS, IKON, OPTIK, sure to dazzle fashion and design aficionados alike. Sully Wong will offer four exclusive designs in eight colourways in the collection.

“I’m always looking for new ways to express my art, and working with George and Henry was a great avenue for me,” says Rashid. “I think we share a passion for creating unique, original designs, and our vision for what we wanted was very clear from the beginning.”


The East has officially met the West – with the collaboration between designer George Sully and sneaker aficionado Henry Wong. Karim Rashid is one of the most prolific designers of his generation. Over 3,000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 35 countries attest to his legend of design. Rashid’s award-winning designs include democratic objects such as the ubiquitous Garbo waste can and Oh Chair for Umbra, interiors such as the Morimoto restaurant, Philadelphia and Semiramis hotel, Athens and exhibitions for Deutsche Bank and Audi.

Rashid’s work is featured in 20 permanent collections and he exhibits art in galleries worldwide. He is a perennial winner of the Red Dot award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design award, I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review, IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award. He holds honorary doctorates from the Ontario College of Art & Design and Corcoran College of Art & Design. 2008 highlighted Rashid’s largest retrospective to date at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Most recently, he curated the exhibition “Totally Rad: Karim Rashid does Radiators” for Museum of Art and Design in New York City. He is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and conferences globally disseminating the importance of design in everyday life.
