GH+A wins 4 awards

The ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards Programme is designed to honour the industry’s brightest and best. The program brings information and insight to the entire industry on what it takes to achieve high levels of accomplishment and success. Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the design and development of retail properties.

ICSC announced the winners of the 2013 Canadian Shopping Centre Awards last Wednesday evening at a gala event at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. In addition, all gold award winners will be automatically eligible to win the ICSC VIVA Best of the Best Award. This award recognizes the shopping centre industry’s most cutting edge properties throughout the world and will be presented during the RECon convention in Las Vegas in May 2014.

GH+A is a proud member of the following winning project teams (in alphabetical order): B.Spoke, Maple Leaf Gold Award;  Hambar, Maple Leaf Silver Award; The Pen Centre Maple Leaf Silver Award; and Richmond Centre Dining Terrace, Maple Leaf Silver Award

B.SPOKE: Maple Leaf Gold Award

Inspired by the British bespoke tradition of men’s customized garments, B.Spoke pays homage to the notions of refined men’s fashion through its tailored store design. Within a private gentlemen’s club-like setting, B.Spoke conveys a sense of luxury and sophistication.

HAMBAR – Maple Leaf Silver Award

Upon entering Hambar from the main entrance, one is greeted by a dramatic full-height showcase of theatrically lit suspended cured meats – the restaurant’s epicurean specialty. The vibe is reminiscent of a Soho hot spot, with just the right French touch.

PEN CENTRE – Maple Leaf Silver Award

In collaboration with MMC International Architects Developer: 20 Vic Management Inc. The environmentally friendly redesign of the Pen Centre was inspired by the abundance of vineyards, parks, gardens and nature trails in St. Catharines, Ont., known as the Garden City. The graphic signature of stylized vineyard motifs throughout the mall and the exterior brand identity is a nod to the region’s renowned winemaking industry.

RICHMOND CENTRE DINING TERRACE – Maple Leaf Silver Award

In collaboration with Abbarach Architecture Inc. Developer: Cadillac Fairview Corp. Conceived according to the design principles of feng shui, the goal was to create an urban, modern and environmentally conscious design. The Dining Terrace, located in the space of a former multiplex cinema on the upper level of the mall, evokes a restaurant quality environment using both indigenous and recycled materials.
