Robert Ledingham’s Legacy Foundation
Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), along with the Interior Design Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC), are pleased to announce the introduction of a new Legacy Foundation, as part of the IDC Foundation, in honour of Robert (Bob) Ledingham, one of Canada’s most celebrated interior designers.
Ledingham was widely recognized throughout his distinguished career, with more than two decades of experience in the corporate, hospitality, and retail sectors. He passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.
Colleagues praised Ledingham as a dedicated, committed supporter and a voice of reason for the interior design profession. His role in the development of the interior design professional accreditation process, along with his numerous awards and professional accolades, make him a leader in the interior design community. He was a passionate mentor for future generations of interior designers.
Ledingham is the recipient of more than 30 awards for his designs, including several City of Vancouver Heritage Awards, for his contribution to heritage design, and was inducted to Western Living magazine’s Hall of Fame.
In 2011, he was awarded the prestigious Leadership Award of Excellence by IDC, IDIBC, and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Manitoba.
“Bob’s contribution to the interior design profession is immeasurable,” says IDC CEO, Susan Wiggins. “The monies raised will help keep Bob’s passion for the profession alive. He was a visionary, a leader in the true sense of the word, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of design talent. He will not be forgotten.”
The Robert Ledingham Legacy Foundation was unveiled to members, friends, family and colleagues at a one-year memorial for the deceased, organized by IDIBC members. In keeping with the spirit of Ledingham’s work, donations will help fund annual student scholarships.
