Two awards for Nienkmper

Nienkämper today announced that it has been honoured with two 2013 Good Design awards: one for the Gateway Collection, designed by Busk+Hertzog; the other for the Pleat Chair, by Four O Nine.

Good Design is an international symbol of a company’s firm commitment to innovation and superior design embodiment. Says Klaus Nienkämper, “The Good Design award recognizes excellence in innovation, construction, function and utility. It is always an honour and a pleasure to receive awards of this merit.”

Founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., Good Design annually bestows international recognition upon the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary and innovative product concepts, invention and originality.

The Gateway Collection is comprised of three major elements that work in conjunction to provide smart solutions to multimedia presentation, video conference and traditional office requirements. The Gateway range of furniture includes tables, media walls, lounge seating and accessories, which can be used individually or together creating a concept that is highly customizable – from small informal meeting tables to big formal telepresence tables to informal lounge groups.

The Pleat chair – in lounge and dining versions – is a dramatically cantilevered chair that is supported and defined by a crisp structural fold. Inspired by pleating techniques in fashion design, Pleat performs like an elegant piece of fabric folded along its spine to provide shape, comfort, and structure. A homage to fine tailoring of haute couture and the flawless integration of form and comfort, the Pleat lounge chair is minimal in appearance. It’s visual boldness and refined details add to the sense of luxury that the Pleat chair’s simplicity imparts. –
