Three from Poltrona Frau: a new armchair, a new furniture system and an updated classic

Italian company Poltrona Frau has introduced three new items: the Downtown armchair; the Jobs executive furniture system; and an update to the classic Ginger Ale chair.

DOWNTOWN

Jean-Marie Massaud created the Downtown office chair, combining ergonomics, technique and timeless elegance. The result is an extremely comfortable chair from both an aesthetic and functional point of view. Downtown steers clear of all rigid schemata. The sensuality of the design is a distinctive feature of Jean-Marie Massaud’s work and is enhanced by the touch of the leather, hand-processed by the Poltrona Frau craftsmen. The geometries of the back of the Downtown alternate broken lines with rounded lines. The armrests and the backrest are separate but almost appear to touch as if embracing you with their dynamic lightness. The President, Executive and Managerial models are all equipped with a sophisticated mechanism that enables you to set the backrest to 5 different positions and adjust the degree to which the seat can turn. The 5-spoke aluminium base has a polished or black lacquered finish and is complete with soft, self-braking swivel castors. The differentiated-density polyurethane foam padding of the armchair is very comfortable, perfectly supporting all parts of the body. Upon request, the upholstery in Pelle Frau leather from the Color System can be produced from micro-perforated leather on the inside of the backrest and the armrests and on the seat cushion. Micro-perforated material, used by Poltrona Frau for car interiors, has breathable properties that make the Downtown even more comfortable. The stitching on the leather is ton-sur-ton.

JOBS

Rodolfo Dordoni has made his debut with Poltrona Frau by designing the Jobs executive furniture system. The name sums up the design philosophy. Dordoni has created a system that reflects a wide range of behaviours, habits and job functions. The desks in the Easy, Executive and President versions are enhanced with closed or open modules in different sizes and are designed to delineate mini and impromptu meeting areas. In fact, a round top can be added to the Easy and Executive desks for meetings. The designer thinks of the workspace as an increasingly connected world. It is a place packed with technology and relationships, in which it is increasingly important to find calm, concentration and balance. Jobs translates into an elegant architectural language. Clean vertical and horizontal lines meet. A deliberate formal neatness which is not disturbed by the ingenious concealed wiring system, which can be customised on the basis of the user’s electrical devices. The cables run inside the central column or the drawer unit and through the top of the desks, making them completely invisible, but at the same time easy to access for any purpose. The craftsmanship and the value of the materials emphasise the executive character of Jobs. The structure of the desks with their characteristic “T” section is in lead satin-finished steel. The Piombo (lead) or Tabacco (tobacco) finishes of the oak veneer on the drawer units, open compartments and work surfaces, are all in perfect harmony. The alternately polished and matte surfaces of the wood create a sense of movement and sophistication. This combination of textures is enriched by Pelle Frau leather from the Color System, which covers the fronts of the drawers and part of the shelves. A central strip of wood runs along the desk, visually distinguishing the side belonging to the host from that of the guest. The Jobs collection of executive furniture is complete with several versions of a low cabinet with doors or drawers, and by a drawer unit with two drawers, all in oak and Pelle Frau leather from the Color System, just like the desks.

GINGER ALE

Roberto Lazzeroni developed the Ginger Ale Office chair system for Poltrona Frau. The new collection retains the Ginger Ale’s iconic shell-like body with its two lateral teardrop openings, while making it even more versatile. The number of different supports available, all in steel, has multiplied: 5-spoke base with self-braking castors, 4-spoke base with central column or a simple 4-spoke base, for swivel or stationary models. Fresh, beautifully designed and extremely modern, the versatile Ginger Ale Office chair, in its various guises, is perfect for the workplace, as a chair for individual workstations or meeting rooms, public spaces or the office/study at home. A ductility that also stems from its infinite colour combinations. The back of the shell of the Ginger Ale Office chair, in anthracite or white, can be matched with the supports in the same finish for a compact and uniform effect, or with the chrome-plated supports to create an elegant contrast. An additional element to experiment with is the interior of the seat, in Pelle Frau leather from the Color System, with numerous different shades to choose from.
