Tripping the light fantastic with Vancouver-based Blue Pine Studio

Illusions make great eye candy, but they also serve another, more serious, purpose. Magicians use illusions to trick spectators; artists use them to create effects that challenge our perception of what is real; and neuroscientists use illusions to gain insights into how our eyes and brains interpret visual information.

Vancouver-based Blue Pine Studio however has a much more simple idea. Its aim to use illusions to create lighting sculptures that are are both beautiful and useful. The sculptures are the results of the combination of art and green technology combination. They can be used as both decorative and night lights.

Each lamp consists of an engraved acrylic piece, lamp base, and electronics including 12-volt power supply, LED light, controller, and remote control.

Blue Pine Studio is currently running a campaign on Kickstarter, a short video clip and pictures of 12 different designs can be seen on the Kickstarter campaign page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/365631258/3d-illusion-lighting
