Energy-recruitment specialist Spencer Ogden opens an office in Calgary
Spencer Ogden, the world’s fastest growing international energy-recruitment specialist, has unveiled its new Canadian headquarters in Calgary as part of a major North American expansion program.
The office celebrated its launch with a VIP party on Wednesday, Sept. 24, where co-founders Sir Peter Ogden (chairman) and David Spencer-Percival (CEO) hosted energy professionals from around Calgary in their signature office space.
Led by Lee Rook, country manager for Canada, the award-winning company will officially open its 14th office with 22 team members, all from the local area, with projected growth of 100 per cent over the next year. Rook has over 15 years international recruitment experience, having worked across U.K., Europe, Middle East, Africa and North American markets.
The opening is part of Spencer Ogden’s major North American expansion, having recently announced new openings in Orlando, San Diego and Denver. Future plans in Canada also include an office in Toronto.
“Our Calgary office launch is a cornerstone of our wider expansion in North America, which will continue next year,” says Spencer Ogden, CEO, David Spencer-Percival, the U.K.’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2013. “Our approach and results mean we are highly valued by our clients and candidates. We’re delighted to bring new jobs to the recruitment sector in Calgary and deliver the best talent for our clients. With an increasingly stimulating energy market, Calgary represents a great challenge and opportunity that we’re excited to be part of.”
Says Rook, “There are some very exciting projects underway in the Canadian energy market so this is a perfect time for us to officially launch in Calgary. There is some excellent local talent here so we look forward to working with our clients and candidates as we expand our presence in the city.”
Says Ed Ogden, director of the Americas, “Following recent office openings in the U.S., we are delighted to be expanding into the thriving Canadian energy market as well. The opening of an office in Calgary is representative of our ambitious growth plans in the Americas and we are confident that our burgeoning local team can help new and existing clients to develop their operations significantly by attracting top talent.”
The recruitment firm takes a unique approach to office design, with astro turf used as carpets and locally inspired meeting rooms. In Calgary, the theme pairs the rustic appeal of an old hunting lodge with the traditional Canadian pastime of ice hockey. The office space boasts a clubroom complete with oversized leather furniture and a crackling fireplace, and a boardroom that showcases Canadian hockey greats as well as vintage artwork from Lake Louise.
Spencer Ogden is the first recruitment consultancy to service the entire end-to-end energy sector. The focus on all energy industries, from oil and gas to renewables and project financing to distribution, is a key driver for the business’s growth and central to its innovative approach.
Since its foundation in 2010, Spencer Ogden has grown from a headcount of just 25 to over 400 employees globally. Its annual turnover for 2013 was $84 million, and the business is on track to reach a target of $125.5 million in 2014.
This year Spencer Ogden received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, which recognizes businesses that achieve significant international commercial growth, relative to their size and sector.
