With Natural Curiosities, David Rockwell partners with Shaw Hospitality Group a second time
Life under a magnifying glass conveys a new sense of place with Natural Curiosities, a carpet collection by renowned architect David Rockwell and Shaw Hospitality Group. Like Layered Luxe, the first collaboration between Rockwell and Shaw Hospitality Group, Natural Curiosities further explores elements found in nature.
With this collection, Rockwell drew inspiration from cabinets of wonder from the 19th and 20th century, where rich arrays of exotic and colourful specimens were on vivid display. These elements intrigued and inspired in a variety of different patterns; some patterns explore the effect of light and shadow on natural surfaces, while others reflect a more textural and abstract approach.
“Birds and butterflies drew us into the world of the curious,” says Rockwell, president of Rockwell Group. “We playfully interpreted these designs in different scales, patterns and exotic colour palettes to bring a high-end residential look to hospitality environments.”
The 27 field, corridor and rug patterns in this collection work in harmony to visually interpret the intricacies in the natural world around us. The design approach captures a micro view of our world, making the ordinary truly extraordinary.
Natural Curiosities is a design catalyst that translates into various manufacturing technologies. Dye-injected print, tufted and CYP (computerized yarn placement) offer high-quality plush aesthetics to accommodate hospitality projects for guest rooms and public spaces.
