Ash356.0
The brief set out by the annual Design By Nature competition – to create functional furniture or forms of public art made from at least 50-per-cent salvaged or recycled materials – fell right in Stacklab’s wheelhouse. A Toronto-based multidisciplinary design and fabrication studio led by Jeff Forrest, Stacklab focusses its efforts on exploring ways to fuse traditional fabrication techniques with experimental research “to demonstrate how sustainable design fundamentally enriches process and product.” With the Ash356.0 series of stools and tables, Stacklab upped the ante by devising a casting process that uses 90-per-cent repurposed material, earning the studio its second consecutive win in this competition.
