ALL ABOUT URBAN MODE
Founded in Toronto 37 years ago by Myrlene Sundberg (interior designer) and John Palchinski (artist), Urban Mode is a true original. In late 1977, the duo decided to try out their entrepreneurial wings and open a retail store called The Second Story in the then-still-gritty Queen Street West area. Surrounded by boarded up windows and second hand stores, a spark of a dream developed to bring fun and colourful design at affordable prices to the market place. His background in contemporary art and her love of furniture design flourished.
Their focus has always been evident…a love of modern design, fun colour and contemporary furniture. With the purchase of their new home, a former three-bay garage on Tecumseth Street in the Queen West West area, a custom-designed pre-fab pod has been added to display the Blu Dot gallery of modern furniture design.
Urban Mode offers modern design in many categories from furnishings to accessories to fun gifts. It carries such distinctive lines as Blu Dot, Bobby Berk , ModFire, Lind Furniture, Chilewich, Blomus, Atlas Homewares, Color Cord, Question Objects and Pablo Lighting, just to name a few
