Italian company Labanto brings craft back to mirrors

Labanto is bringing an art form back to life, inspired by the age-old glassworks Vetraria Antolisei Torino.

The Torino-based company produces distressed mirrors, revisiting a typically 18th-century tradition and projecting it straight into contemporary esthetics.

“We like the idea of returning the craft element to mirrors,” says Francesca Brinatti, speaking on behalf of Labanto.

The result is a collection of products in a variety of shapes and sizes; they have been subjected to the typical silvering process in addition to a special surface aging treatment. The surfaces are rich with elements that give significant depth to the finished product; however, more importantly, these are primarily powerful textures that can be used to define and construct the space.
