Toronto’s Design Exchange presents “Smarter. Faster. Tougher.”
Opening with the Pan Am games, the Design Exchange’s 2015 summer/fall exhibition – running July 8 to Oct. 12 – focusses on sportswear Presented and commissioned by Panamania and presented by CIBC, “Smarter. Faster. Tougher.” is curated by Marie O’Mahony, a professor of Advanced Fashion + Textiles a OCAD University and visiting professor at University of the Arts, London. O’Mahony is also a textile and technology consultant, author and international curator with over 20 years of experience. This is the second offsite exhibition that will run in the heart of the PanAm village, the Distillery District, 39 Parliament Street.
Smarter. Faster. Tougher.” explores the vast evolution of sportswear and the role technology has played in that growth, visitors will see the clothing, equipment, and accessories that enhance performance and were/are worn by world-celebrated athletes. Divided into four sections – ethnographics, nature, fashion and performance – this exhibit examines the nature of sportswear today and its wider cultural, social and aesthetic significance.
Digital Futures from OCADU created an app for this exhibition that will allow guests to use their own mobile phones as a guide and educational tool. This will include interactive video content from U.K.’s Royal College of Art.
