IA Interior Architects’ Julio Braga inducted into IIDA College of Fellows
The executive leadership of IA Interior Architects is pleased to announce that Julio Braga LEED AP, design principal at the firm’s New York office, has been inducted into the IIDA College of Fellows, the highest honor offered by IIDA to its members. IIDA’s College of Fellows honors those whose activities and efforts have benefitted and enhanced IIDA, as well as whose works have influenced the interior design profession.
IIDA’s executive vice-president and CEO Cheryl Durst Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP say, “As president of IIDA, one of Julio’s goals included international expansion and involvement, which the association has worked to build for the past decade. In his term this past year, IIDA saw the creation of a collaboration agreement between IIDA and three leading Italian associations, the first IIDA program presented in Latin America, and plans for new chapters, initiatives, and programming in cities and countries such as Berlin, Dubai, and Singapore. All of this would not be possible without Julio’s vision, influence, and work ethic. He is an exemplary ambassador for design excellence.”
In Braga’s more than 25 years in the profession, he has directed a broad range of projects both domestically and internationally. Before joining IA Interior Architects 10 years ago, he worked at WalkerGroup/CNI’s Environmental Branding Studio as design director, and then established Braga Oris Associates only five years later. His numerous accolades include Institute of Store Planners’ Specialty Store of the Year Award in 2002, for his Ford new-concept store; IFMA Design Excellence Award for his design of IA Interior Architects’s office in New York; and Interior Design magazine’s Best of the Year award for the Bancolombia headquarters project in Medellin, Colombia, in 2009. Braga’s Bancolombia project also earned him the CoreNet CA Chapter Innovation Award, the IIDA NY Chapter Lester Dundes Award, and the IIDA Global Design Excellence Award.
“Since Julio joined IA in 2004, he has made a difference not only in design but also as a leader at IA and the design community,” says David Bourke, IA’s co-executive director. “His hard work, talent, international experience and business acumen are unparalleled and as a person he brings great passion to everything he is involved with. I am delighted to see Julio being recognized by IIDA and we are so fortunate to have him as a part of the IA family.”
According to David Mourning, FIIDA, FAIA, president and CEO of IA, “Julio’s influence, vision, expertise, and stunning award-winning iconic design work on behalf of our clients have helped to build and shape IA’s strong global presence and proficiency.”
