IIDA Student Design Competition is now open

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has opened its 11th annual Student Design Competition. Sponsored by OFS Brands, the competition rewards individuals and/or teams whose projects demonstrate innovative and functional design solutions that have a positive environmental and human impact. This year, the competition invites students to conceptualize the future of an urban university mixed-use building.

“Rising tuition, an increase in entrepreneurial hubs with hands-on apprenticeships and training, and new teaching best practices have given us the opportunity to rethink how educational institutions are managed, planned, and designed,” said IIDA executive vice president and CEO Cheryl S. Durst. “Students are uniquely positioned to approach the challenge of a mixed-use university building from a unique perspective and with fresh ideas. I am eager to see the solutions presented in the Student Design Competition.”

The Student Design Competition is open to students around the world who are currently enrolled in an interior design program. Participants can enter individually or as a team (maximum 5 people). The deadline for submitting projects is Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, 11:59 p.m. CDT. Projects will be reviewed by a panel of design experts. Winners will be announced in the February 2016 issue of Quad and featured in DesignMatters and on the IIDA website. Prizes are as follows: 1st prize – $2,500; 2nd prize – $1,500; 3rd prize – $750. Judges will be announced shortly. Please download the creative brief for full competition details, or contact Liz Moran, IIDA Design Competitions Manager, at [email protected].
