Toronto’s trendy West Queen West neighbourhood received a curious delivery earlier this month: seven cargo shipping containers. Curated Properties recently unveiled a unique, two-storey structure constructed entirely out of recyclable cargo shipping containers at the site of its latest condo development, Cabin at 45 Dovercourt Road.
While temporary sales centres are constantly being erected and torn down, Curated Properties has a different vision. “Often, you see elaborate condo sales centres pop-up only to be demolished within months,” says Adam Ochshorn, principal, Curated Properties.
Designed by award-winning RAW Architects with Canadiana-inspired interiors by Toronto’s own Mason Studio, the presentation centre can be disassembled and the containers reused. The boutique building will house 25 homes, each is complete with an open-air getaway with a widespan balcony, terrace or rooftop. Clad in wood and metal, with each home expressed individually in a cascading effect, Cabin’s façade is highly sculptural.
“There’s a simplicity and a true natural appeal to Cabin’s interiors,” said Stanley Sun, partner, Mason Studio. “We wanted to create a humble, instinctive look, warm and contemporary, removing unnecessary polish. Cabin inspired us to stay true to its Canadiana appeal, using natural stoneware and eclectic cottage-esque furniture in the model suite.” Enter the model suite and find a contemporary rustic home outfitted with oiled ply, pony hair, polished brass and textured stone boulder.
