We Care celebration brings Toronto children a day of cheer
Herman Miller once again hosted the annual We Care event – a series of holiday events held across North America for disadvantaged children. More than 6,000 children attended events in 26 cities with volunteers from Herman Miller and leading architecture and design firms.
This year the Toronto We Care event was held at University Settlement on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. We Care Toronto, united once again, furniture manufacturer Herman Miller with University Settlement, a community-based social services centre, and seven of the city’s leading architecture and interior design firms in hosting a special gathering for 200 children. Design partners included, Cannon Design, Dialog, figure3, Gensler, HOK, Stantec and Straticom.
We Care allows Herman Miller and our design partners to provide a unique experience for local children, helping them design and create gifts for their loved ones. At the event, dozens of volunteers were on hand to help children achieve their artistic vision. “This event has become a yearly tradition we are all proud to be a part of, and the support of the Toronto design community makes it possible for us to share the joy of creativity with some very deserving children.” said Herman Miller’s Katya Filippetti, We Care planning coordinator.
“University Settlement is so proud to be a part of the Herman Miller We Care program. Spreading joy and happiness amongst children from community centres from around the city, is the result of the efforts of many of the city’s top design firms under the direction of the staff of Herman Miller”, said Ted Thompson, Director of Facilities and Recreation University Settlement, a multi-service agency that was founded in 1910 and has the distinction of being the first community-based social service centre in the city of Toronto. “We Care provides true happiness for everyone, from the joy of deeds well done, and the zest of creating things new.”
