Architect chosen for new University of Alberta residence
Diamond Schmitt Architects has been selected to design a student residence at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Lister Hall will add 520 beds to an existing student housing precinct on campus.
The $24.6-million project will proceed on the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model with construction partner Graham. Diamond Schmitt Architects and Graham previously collaborated on a residence and academic facility using the IPD model for St. Jerome’s University in Waterloo, Ontario.
Lister Hall will be designed to the Green Globes system of sustainable building. Student amenities will include lounges, games room, fitness, study and office areas.
Current Diamond Schmitt student residence projects include Centennial College’s Student Residence and Academic Building, with 742 beds and 42,000-square-feet of academic space and 22,000-square-foot conference space; a 25-storey residence on College Street with 892 beds; and the recently opened 23-storey, 620-bed Primrose Student Residence, all in Toronto.
