Karl Lagerfeld designs lobbies for Toronto’s Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos
Capital Developments and Freed Developments have unveiled Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for ‘Lobbies by Lagerfeld‘.
Inside Toronto’s Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos, the international designer’s first Canadian project reflects his visionary style – bold, monochromatic schemes with a cultivated blend of luxury and modernity. Lagerfeld’s involvement in the project with Capital Developments and Freed Developments began with the ambition to imprint midtown Toronto with an iconic design statement. Cary Leitzes of New York-based Leitzes & Co. was tapped to facilitate the eventual partnership with Lagerfeld.

Jordan Dermer, managing partner, Capital Developments says, “In many ways, Toronto is a leader in North America when it comes to high-rise residential development. This project’s location, size and presence – fronting on a full city block of Toronto’s Yonge Street – demanded that we pursue a very bold vision for the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos. Karl was the perfect partner to achieve this vision, and his team was instrumental in making this all come true.”
Described as not typically Canadian, but with a touch of the north, contemporary interiors feature a dramatic palate of mirror and glass and oversized bookshelves curated by the designer himself. Peter Freed, president of Freed Developments says, “We wanted to elevate design to a new level not yet seen in the country. The Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos will be a legacy project for Toronto.”
The Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos is a mixed-used development covering a full city block in one of Toronto’s busiest and growing neighbourhoods. The development is located near the intersection of Yonge and Eglinton, where the Crosstown – a $5.3 billion light rail transit (LRT) line – is currently under construction. The new LRT line will augment the existing subway and provide enhanced public transportation and access to the growing area.

Capital Developments and Freed Developments are heavily active in the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood with three major projects under construction comprising 1,700 units, and approximately 100,000 sq.ft. of commercial. The projects are over 98 per cent sold.
