Kicking off today, the 2018 edition of the Toronto Design Offsite Festival (TO DO) returns to Canada’s largest city. Going into its 8th year, the TO DO Festival transforms Toronto into a hub for creativity, taking design and art out of the studio and into the urban sphere, bringing people together to celebrate contemporary culture. The festival provides opportunities for emerging talent, and engage the community with exceptional and accessible public programming.
Running until January 21, the week-long festival offers a highly diverse range of programming. From public art installations to roundtable discussions, film screenings, seminars, design exhibitions, and countless window installations, the festival brings an eclectic dose of design thinking to downtown Toronto.
Beginning with the opening night party at Niagara Street’s Lightform Toronto, the festival continues with myriade events throughout the week. This year, the showpiece TO DO Talks Symposium — held Saturday, January 20 — takes on the theme of ‘Designing the Workplace of the Future, while UK-based Aberrant Architecture will present a TO DO Talk with curator Beatrice Gallilee on the evening of Friday, January 19. In Friday’s architectural talk, Aberrant founders David Chambers and Kevin Haley will discuss the ideas, experiences, and stories that reside outside the “final” work or architecture – the “outtakes.” The talk is also eligible for OAA Continuing Education learning hours.
Featuring hundreds of exhibits, displays, and events across the city, this year’s TO DO Festival builds upon 2017’s impressive scope. In January 2017, TO DO had direct participation from 700+ artists and designers, saw 130k + visitors, received 109+ million press impressions, and 500+ million total brand impressions.
