Ceramics of Italy tile competition invites North American entries
Now in its 25th year, the Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition recognizes the exceptional work of North American architects and designers who feature Italian ceramic tiles in their institutional, residential or commercial spaces.
Winners in the built projects category will receive a $3,000 cash prize, as well as a paid trip to the international Coverings show, held in Atlanta, GA in May, as well as Bologna’s Cersaie show, which will take place in late September. The competition’s student winner will also receive a trip to Coverings.

The competition is open to all North American architects, interior designers and students. Domestic and international new construction and renovation projects completed between January 2013 and January 2018 are eligible for entry in the residential, commercial and institutional categories. Students must be enrolled at an accredited university in North America to be eligible.

A panel of design experts will judge the projects based on their creativity, functionality, sustainability and aesthetic appeal. The official criterion for the jury includes: overall design of the project, innovative use of tile, tile design, degree that tile enhances the setting and the project’s sustainable attributes.
Commercial, residential institutional projects completed within the last five years (January 2013 – January 2018) are eligible in the built categories. Projects can be new construction or renovation and domestic or international as long as the architect or designer is based in North America.As it is a competition celebrating Italian Tile, projects must feature ceramic or porcelain tile from at least one member company of Ceramics of Italy. Students can work in teams or individually and must be enrolled at an accredited university in North America to be eligible.
