DesignEx seminar returns to Montreal on June 26

On June 26th, IDC’s nationwide DesignEx series is making it’s long-awaited return to Montreal — offering IDC members more than 50% off the regular DesignEx pricing. CHOICE OF MATERIALS ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION (delivered in French)
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. & 12 – 1 p.m. | 3 IDCEC hours (HSW)

Do you master the requirements of Part 3 of the Code for materials and interior finishes when construction requirements call for fire-resistant construction? Do you know how a professional can determine if the building must be fire-resistant or if it can be a combustible construction? Do you know the tests that can determine the fire resistance of a material and its flame-spread rating?

This seminar will allow you to address the various requirements to help you make an adequate choice of materials according to the 2010 National Building Code. amended for Quebec

This course is designed for professionals and their personnel participating in the preparation of plans and specifications.

At the end of this education seminar, the attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the process for determining the type of construction allowed or required for a building
  • Know the requirements of Part 3 of the 2010 National Building Code amended for Quebec concerning the choice of materials according to type of construction
  • Determine the performance criteria for interior finishes
  • Determine if a specific material has obtained the required performance levels

Nicole Olivier in an architect and an adult educator in the field of construction codes and standards for the construction and building professionals. She analyzes the application of construction and fire safetyregulatory requirements for projects at the design stage. She also conducts inspections and verification of existing buildings to assess the required backfits for conformity, and provides expert advice in litigation files

 
KNOW YOUR PORCELAIN

Porcelain tile is beautiful, strong, durable and ideal surface in commercial as well as residential applications. Certified porcelain excels as a versatile finish material both indoors and out from kitchens to baths, poolside to hospital hallway. Porcelain tile meets universal design and this presentation will review the latest information on using the dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF) vs. the static coefficient of friction (SCOF) for tile surfaces that meet ADA criteria. Architects will review the manufacturing of tiles, the use of recycled content, tile grading, markings and tile applications. Numerous examples of the different types of porcelain will expand the architect’s design toolkit. Mastering the art of selecting and specifying porcelain tile, architects can comfortably choose porcelain tile to provide durability and sustainability to their projects.

Glen Brewer is a Senior Entrepreneurial Executive with over 25 years experience in the tile, floor covering and construction-related industries. He is a recognized expert in the ceramic and porcelain tile sector, and brings extensive expertise gained in multiple industry fields including sales, finance, operations, and executive management. He has built several companies from the ground up, serving both existing and new markets, and is both company President of Midgley Tecnica and a member of several industry boards.
