Rado Star Prize design competition comes to Canada at IDS
Design-driven Swiss watchmaker Rado is pleased to announce its partnership with Canada’s premier design fair, Interior Design Show (IDS), as part of the brand’s global commitment to design. The partnership will see Rado host installations at the Vancouver and Toronto editions of IDS and run its famous Rado Star Prize competition in Canada for the first time.
Rado’s installations will focus on ‘Design Inspired by Nature’ which is also the theme of the Rado Star Prize competition. The Rado Star Prize promotes the work of up-and-coming designers, giving them a platform to show their work.
The Rado Star Prize Canada 2019 will challenge entrants to explore the influence nature can have on functional design for daily use through materials, colours and textures – a theme embodied by Rado’s latest light, minimalist and eye-catching watches.
Ten finalists and one winner of the Rado Star Prize Canada 2019 will be chosen by a specialist jury comprising representatives of IDS, Rado and specially selected industry experts. The winner will receive $5,000 as well as a Rado True Thinline watch. All finalists will have the opportunity to display their concepts at IDS Toronto.
In addition, Rado will host a special ‘Design Offspring Contest’ in collaboration with IDS for students of various Canadian Design Schools. The contest brings teams of students together to develop a concept for a biophilic design space connecting nature and modern design. Three finalists will be chosen to display their concepts at IDS Vancouver, within the Rado installation. The winning team will be announced in October and awarded $10,000 to create their concept, which will be featured in a prime location at IDS Toronto.
The Rado Star Prize is an established competition that has run in various countries around the world including the UK, US, Taiwan, France and Italy, supporting young, unestablished designers and giving them a platform to present their work. Far from focusing on just one field of design, Rado aims to attract projects and ideas from numerous design disciplines in order to create projects that can benefit the lives of individuals or communities both now and in the future.
